CRYOPEN ®

CryoPen is the No.1 Cryosurgery system for effective multi-lesion removal. This allows for quick and pain-free treatments to remove benign cosmetic skin lesions in a matter of seconds. This treatment uses an ultra cold jet (-89°C) of high-pressure nitrous oxide directly on to skin lesions with extreme precision, to avoid collateral damage to the healthy surrounding tissue. This can remove the majority of skin lesions safely and effectively.

Skin Lesion Assessment & Map My Mole Service

At Holme Valley Skin Clinic, all patients requesting removal of benign skin lesions with CryoPen® will first undergo a thorough skin assessment and consultation with our experienced Nurse Prescriber and Clinical Director, Julie.

Julie is an accredited Melanoma and Skin Cancer Early Detection (MASCED) Professional Practitioner, trained to assess skin lesions and identify any features that may require further medical investigation before treatment.

As there are many different types of skin lesions — some suitable for cryotherapy and some not — an initial consultation is essential to ensure that treatment is both safe and appropriate. The assessment also helps identify any lesions that may appear unusual or suspicious and should be reviewed further by your GP or a Consultant Dermatologist before removal.

While this can understandably sound worrying, it is important to remember that many harmless lesions can look very similar to skin cancers. Early identification and referral of suspicious lesions is extremely important, as detecting abnormal or pre-cancerous cells early can make treatment simpler, more effective, and potentially life-saving.

Your Consultation & Referral Pathway

Initial Medical Assessment

£35

Your consultation can take up to 45-minute and includes:

  • Full medical history and skin health assessment

  • Professional assessment of suitability for CryoPen® treatment

  • Advice on treatment options and next steps

  • Opportunity to discuss skin leisons concerns with an experienced clinician

  • MASCED screening of lesions of concern

If your lesions are assessed as suitable for cryotherapy, a treatment appointment can then be booked. Please see our treatment price list below for further details.

If a Lesion Requires Further Investigation

If your assessment identifies a lesion that appears suspicious, this does not mean you have skin cancer. Many benign lesions can closely resemble more serious skin conditions, which is why NICE guidance recommends further review before cosmetic removal is performed.

If further assessment is recommended, there are several options available:

GP Self-Referral

You may be advised to contact your GP directly to arrange a review of the lesion following your consultation with us.

£0

GP Referral Letter

£25

We can provide a detailed referral letter for your GP, including:

- Relevant medical and family history

- Clinical information about the lesion

- Concerning features
- Dermoscopy photographs

Dermoscopy images allow the lesion to be viewed in greater detail beneath the skin’s surface, providing information not visible to the naked eye and helping improve diagnostic accuracy.

Map My Mole Dermatology Review

£50 for 1 lesion

+ £30 each additional lesion

Using the Map My Mole service, dermoscopy images can be securely sent directly to a Consultant Dermatologist for expert review.

In most cases, results are returned within 24–48 hours and include:

  • An expert opinion on the lesion

  • Risk assessment

  • Advice on next steps

  • Recommendations regarding referral or treatment if required

This service can help provide reassurance quickly and may help speed up onward referral if further investigation is needed.

What Happens Next?

Depending on your GP, or the Consultant Dermatologist’s recommendations, the next steps may include:

- Monitoring the lesion
- Treatment with a prescribed topical cream
- Cryotherapy treatment if appropriate
- Referral for biopsy or further investigation. A skin biopsy is sometimes recommended to accurately determine whether cells are normal, pre-cancerous, or cancerous.

Your safety will always be our priority, and we will only proceed with CryoPen® treatment when it is clinically appropriate to do so.
